About

Anderson Rodrigo de Queiroz is an associate professor in the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and a member of the Operations Research (OR) graduate program. He is also an adjunct professor at the School of Business at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). He received his B.Sc. (2005) and M.Sc. (2007) degrees in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Systems from Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI). He has a Ph.D. in OR from The University of Texas at Austin with a focus on applied optimization and analytical techniques. Prior to joining NCSU he worked as a professor, consultant and researcher. His interests include OR, with focus on large-scale stochastic optimization, analytics and decision-making techniques, as well as planning, operations, economics and design of clean and sustainable energy systems.

Passion for Research

Critical thinking about real life problems aligned with the development of analytical frameworks and methodologies to help aid relevant information to support planning and operations decisions are elements that drive Dr. de Queiroz passion for research.

"I enjoy working in a collaborative environment and in projects that encompasses multi-disciplinary subjects. One of my objectives is to better use theoretical developments and apply them to model-based analysis that informs real world decision-making. Over the last several years, I have developed computational machinery using mathematical optimization and data analytics to solve systems problems related to power, energy, water, environment and biosecurity."

Dr. de Queiroz future research plans are aimed at developing and testing different methodologies to deal with decision-making under uncertainty as well as the use of data-driven predictive analytics techniques to enable better quality decisions in clean and sustainable systems.

In the Classroom

Dr. de Queiroz has broad teaching experience developed through several years working at three respectable universities.

"In my view, the importance of a great professor for a student is unique. A professor has the possibility to make the difference in students lives by helping them to overcome barriers, with lectures, examples, advice, and encouragement. Each lecture must be well planned and presented logically for students to learn the most. These lectures have to be taught with passion, explained in a simple manner, and at the same time challenge students to think, make decisions, and draw informed conclusions for themselves."
